The Ship: m/s Paul Gauguin
The m/s Paul Gauguin was designed and built specifically to sail the shallow lagoons of French Polynesia. At 19,200 gross tons and just 330 guests, she gets into places — Taha’a, Fakarava, the Marquesas — that the big ships simply cannot reach, and she stays longer once she’s there, with overnight calls in Bora Bora and Moorea.
With 217 crew for 330 guests (one crew member for every 1.5 guests), the service is as personal as it gets. Every stateroom is oceanview, nearly 70% have private balconies, and the whole ship came out of a multi-million-dollar refurbishment in 2025 with refreshed staterooms, suites, restaurants and public spaces.
Onboard you’ll find three restaurants (L’Etoile, La Veranda and Le Grill), the Piano Bar, Le Grand Salon and La Palette Lounge, an Algotherm spa and fitness center, a pool and pool bar, and a retractable watersports marina at the stern with complimentary kayaks and paddleboards — plus an onboard PADI dive program with certification available. Ship’s registry is Wallis & Futuna, and she cruises at 18 knots.
Staterooms and Suites
There are just 165 staterooms and suites aboard, all of them oceanview. Every one has a queen-size bed (a limited number can be configured as twins), a bathroom with a full-size tub and shower in most categories, bathrobes and slippers, a TV, a personal safe, and an in-room mini-bar that is replenished daily with soft drinks, beer and bottled water at no charge.

Dining, Drinks, and Les Gauguines
The cuisine is French with a Polynesian accent: L’Etoile is the main dining room for elegant dinners, La Veranda serves a refined menu indoors or al fresco, and Le Grill on the pool deck does casual breakfasts, lunches and Polynesian-themed dinners under the stars. Every meal is included, as is 24-hour room service, and vegetarian, vegan and special dietary menus are available on request.
All beverages are included too — select fine wines and premium spirits, cocktails at the Piano Bar and La Palette, soft drinks, bottled water, coffee and tea, all day, everywhere on the ship.
What truly sets Paul Gauguin apart is Les Gauguines and Les Gauguins, the troupe of Tahitian hosts who sail on every voyage. They are cruise staff, entertainers, storytellers and teachers all at once: they’ll show you how to tie a pareo, weave a palm frond, dance the ‘ote’a and play the ukulele, and they perform traditional song and dance most evenings. It’s the difference between visiting Polynesia and actually being welcomed into it.
Paul Gauguin also has its own private islet, Motu Mahana, off the coast of Taha’a, where the ship spends a full day: snorkeling, kayaking, a barbecue lunch with full bar service, and a floating bar in the lagoon. On Bora Bora, guests get a day on an exclusive private white-sand beach as well. Both are included.
