Where Can You Cruise From Galveston?

Western Caribbean

Nine out of ten Galveston cruises go to the Western Caribbean. It’s close, so you get more time in port and less time at sea. Favorite stops include Cozumel and Costa Maya in Mexico, Roatán in Honduras, Belize City, and private islands like Norwegian’s Harvest Caye. Snorkel the reefs, climb Mayan ruins, or just relax on the beach.

Sailed by MSC, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Disney and Regent.

Bahamas

Longer Bahamas cruises from Galveston sail around Florida to Nassau and private islands. Sailed by Carnival, Disney, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian.

Eastern Caribbean

Eastern Caribbean cruises from Galveston are longer voyages to islands like San Juan, St. Thomas and St. Maarten. Sailed by Carnival, Disney and Regent.

Southern Caribbean

Southern Caribbean cruises reach Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao and the islands farther south. These are the longest Caribbean sailings from Galveston. Sailed by Carnival, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean and Regent.

Central America

Central America cruises add ports like Belize, Honduras, Guatemala and Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast. Sailed mostly by Carnival, plus Royal Caribbean and Regent.

Panama Canal and South America

Galveston has only a few of these each year — like Disney’s rare Panama Canal and South America sailings — so they sell out fast. For many more choices, see our Panama Canal cruise military discount page.

Transatlantic, Bermuda and Repositioning

A handful of one-way transatlantic and Bermuda sailings happen when ships move between seasons. They’re great values for people with extra vacation time.

Port of Galveston Cruise Guide

Galveston is one of the top cruise home ports in the United States, with almost 4 million cruise passengers a year. The cruise terminals sit side by side on Harborside Drive, on the bay side of the island, a short drive from the beaches and the historic Strand.

Terminal assignments can change, so always check your boarding pass for your terminal before you drive down.

Getting to the Galveston Cruise Port

Driving: Take I-45 south across the causeway onto Galveston Island, take exit 1C, and follow Harborside Drive and the Port of Galveston signs to your terminal.

Flying: Galveston has no commercial airport. The closest is Houston Hobby (HOU), about 45 miles and 45 minutes away. Houston Bush Intercontinental (IAH) is about 70 miles away — allow at least an hour and a half. Plan on a rental car, ride-share or shuttle to the port.

Tip: Houston traffic can be unpredictable. If you’re flying in, arrive the day before your cruise.

Galveston Cruise Parking

The Port of Galveston runs official parking lots and garages next to every terminal. Some are steps from the door; economy lots have a free shuttle. Rates depend on the lot (covered or uncovered) and how close it is to your terminal — expect roughly $20 to $35 per day.

Reserve ahead on the Port of Galveston parking site. Lots near your terminal can sell out on busy weekends. The port takes credit cards only — no cash.

Veterans, take note: The Port of Galveston has a Disabled Veterans Discount Program for cruise parking. Ask about it when you reserve.

Private off-port lots with shuttles, and hotel “park and cruise” packages, are other options. The port isn’t affiliated with private lots, so check reviews before you book one.

Hotels Near the Galveston Cruise Port

Many cruisers drive in the day before and stay one night on the island. Popular choices include:

  • Harbor House Hotel & Marina at Pier 21 — right on the harbor, closest to the cruise terminals.
  • The Tremont House — a historic hotel in the Strand district, a short drive to the port.
  • Hotel Galvez & Spa — the grand 1911 “Queen of the Gulf” on the Seawall.
  • San Luis Resort, Holiday Inn Resort Galveston on the Beach and DoubleTree by Hilton Galveston — beachfront hotels along Seawall Boulevard.
  • Moody Gardens Hotel — great for families, next to the Moody Gardens pyramids.

Some hotels offer park-and-cruise packages or a port shuttle. Terms vary, so ask the hotel when you book.

Things to Do in Galveston Before or After Your Cruise

For veterans: Visit the Galveston Naval Museum at Seawolf Park on Pelican Island, where you can tour the WWII submarine USS Cavalla and the destroyer escort USS Stewart. Watch for it from your ship’s rail as you sail out of the harbor.

The Strand Historic District: Victorian buildings full of shops, galleries, restaurants and candy stores, plus the Grand 1894 Opera House. Next door, the Texas Seaport Museum is home to the 1877 tall ship ELISSA.

Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier: Rides, games and a Ferris wheel over the Gulf.

Moody Gardens: Three giant glass pyramids with an aquarium, a rainforest and a science museum.

The Seawall and the beaches: Walk or bike the Seawall — more than 10 miles long — and relax on Stewart Beach or East Beach. Galveston has 32 miles of beaches.

History and mansions: The Bryan Museum, Moody Mansion and the East End Historic District.

On the way from Houston: Space Center Houston, the official visitor center of NASA’s Johnson Space Center, is just off I-45 in Clear Lake.

Eat like a local: Gulf shrimp, oysters, gumbo and Tex-Mex — the Strand and Seawall Boulevard are full of seafood restaurants.

When Is the Best Time to Cruise From Galveston?

Galveston cruises sail all year. Spring and fall bring the most comfortable weather. Summer is hot and the most popular time for families. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, with the peak from August through October — cruise lines will change your route to avoid storms, so a flexible attitude helps. Winter sailings often have the best prices.

Why Military and Veteran Families Book Galveston Cruises With Military Cruise Deals

You served. Now let us take care of you. Here’s what you get when you book your Galveston cruise with us:

We pay for your military discount.
Most “military discounts” are just a cruise line’s sale price with a new label. Ours comes out of our own commission — on top of the cruise line’s lowest price.

Bring everyone you love.
Your service earns the discount for everyone traveling with you — your spouse, kids, grandkids and friends — even in separate cabins.

You’ll never wonder if you overpaid.
Our Price Drop Tracker is technology we pay a lot for, so you don’t have to. It shows the biggest cruise price drops the moment they happen — free to you.

We keep working for you after you book.
We pay for price-monitoring technology that keeps checking your rate all the way until final payment. If your price drops, we ask the cruise line to re-fare you, upgrade you or give you onboard credit.

No fees. No surprises.
We never charge you a fee to book, change or cancel your cruise. (The cruise line’s own cancellation penalties still apply.)

Real cruise experts — not a call center.
The owners answer the phones. We’ve been on these ships, and we’ll help you choose between MSC, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, Carnival and Disney.

We monitor your rate for price drops! We maximize your military discount on Galveston cruises even after you book!

Between the time you book your Galveston cruise and your final payment date, we keep watching the cruise line’s rates.

If the price drops, we contact the cruise line and ask them to re-fare your cruise to the lower rate, upgrade you to a better cabin, or give you onboard credit for the difference.

Cruise lines don’t always say yes, but we always try. Cruise lines will not re-fare after the final payment date, and some non-refundable fares don’t allow fare changes after booking.

Who Qualifies for Our Military and Veteran Discount on Galveston Cruises?

Active-duty military, retired military, ALL veterans, and ALL spouses.

Every spouse qualifies, no matter the status of the military member — even if you’re divorced.

AND all friends and family traveling with them, even when they are not in the same cabin.

How much is our military discount on Galveston cruises?

We take the lowest fare the cruise line offers and add our military discount on top. That’s always at least 5% off the cruise fare, and many sailings also get extra perks like onboard credit and specialty dining. Our price is lower than the cruise line’s lowest rate — 100% of the time, guaranteed.

  • A cabin total of $1,500 — you save at least $75.
  • A cabin total of $3,000 — you save at least $150.
  • A cabin total of $6,000 — you save at least $300.

Bringing the whole family? Our discount applies to every cabin in your group.
